Holotype: BMNH 1991.230, adult ♀, body in alcohol with skull removed, collected by Tanya Barden and Christopher J. Raxworthy.
Type locality: “Site 1, Ambatovaky Special Reserve [northeast] Madagascar, 16°51'S, 49°08'E, in primary rainforest, between 600-750 metres altitude”.

The dryad shrew tenrec (Microgale dryas), also known as the tree shrew tenrec, is a species of mammal in the family Tenrecidae. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.[2]
