Holotype: BMNH 1895.8.2.19, adult ♂, skin and skull, collected by John Whitehead in 1895.
Type locality: “in the highlands of Northern Luzon” fixed to “Monte Data, Lepanto, N. Luzon, 8000 feet” by Thomas (1898: 392).

Native distribution areas

Philippines: Luzon (Central Cordillera of northern portion).

The Luzon striped rat (Chrotomys whiteheadi) is a species of rodent in the family Muridae. It is found only in the Philippines. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forest.
