Holotype: USNM 458952 (original number 4176), adult ♂, body in alcohol with skull removed, collected by L.R. Heaney on 28 April 1988.
Type locality: “Western slope of Mount Isarog, 4 km N, 21 km E Naga, Camarines Sur Province, Luzon Island, Philippines, 1350 m elevation, 13°40'N, 123°22’E”.

The Isarog striped shrew-rat or Mount Isarog striped rat (Chrotomys gonzalesi) is a species of rodent in the family Muridae found only in the Philippines.
Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests.
