Type species: Onoseris purpurea (L.f.) S.F.Blake, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington 38: 85. (1925). Onoseris purpurata Willd., Sp. Pl., ed. 4 [Willdenow] 3(3): 1702. (1803) was based on illeg. Atractylis purpurata L.f. ex Sm., but citing the legit. name Atractylis purpurea L.f. that should have been adopted as basionym. Thus there is some confusion regarding the correct combination for the type species - see secondary sources below.
