Daemonorops was a genus of rattan palms in the family Arecaceae.[1] Its species are now included within the genus Calamus.[2]

Species found primarily in the tropics and subtropics of southeastern Asia with a few species extending into southern China and the Himalayas.[3][4]

The stems of the Daemonorops are harvested for their cores, which are used for everything from canes to furniture. The fruits of certain species, in particular Daemonorops draco, produce a red resin known as "Dragon's blood".[5]

Daemonorops species are dioecious, with male and female flowers on separate individuals.[6]

Polysaccharides found in some Daemonorops species are known for their medicinal anticoagulant properties.[5]
