Type species: Gonyocephalus tigrinus Wagler, 1830 [=Lophyrus tigrinus Duméril & Bibron, 1837 fide Wermuth (1967: 55)], by subsequent designation by Fitzinger (1843: 15).

Gonocephalus is a genus of agamid lizards endemic to southeast Asia.[4]

Taxonomy

Species from Melanesia and Australia which were formerly included in Gonocephalus are now placed in the genus Hypsilurus.[4]
