Cnemidophorus lemniscatus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Lectotype: NRM 126, ♂. [designated by Cole & Dessauer (1993: 18)]

Type locality: “Guinea” (in error), designated to “probably all originate from Dahlberg, who had two plantations at the confluence of the Cottica River and the Perica Creek, Surinam” by Hoogmoed (1973: 42), restricted to “South America: Suriname: Marowijne; Christiaankondre and Langamankondre, on the west bank of the Marowijne River” by Cole & Dessauer (1993: 18).

The rainbow whiptail (Cnemidophorus lemniscatus) is a species of lizard found in Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. It has also been introduced in Florida and has established populations there.[1] A rainbow whiptail grows up to approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm).

Both sexually reproducing and parthenogenetic populations are known.[1]
