Name

Sanguisorbinae Torr. & A.Gray, Fl. N. Amer. 1(3): 428 (1840).

Type genus: Sanguisorba L.

Note: The traditional tribal circumscription is to follow Sanguisorba s.l. with the addition of a small number of distinctive genera. However, Sanguisorba s.l. is paraphyletic with respect to Poteridium Spach, Ann. Sci. Nat., Bot., sér. 3, 5: 43 (1846) and Poterium L., Sp. Pl.: 994 (1753), which would both need to be resurrected (Potter et al., 2007 and Wang et al., 2020), if monophyly is required for this tribe.
