They are all popular tropical fish in the aquarium hobby. They are commonly known as Rummy-nose tetras.
Taxonomy and systematics
This genus was formerly monotypic, featuring only P. georgiae. The other two species were allocated to Hemigrammus. Before the reallocation in 2020,[1][2] they were distinguished by the following common names:
P. bleheri - Brilliant rummy-nose tetra, or Firehead tetra
P. georgiae - False rummy-nose tetra
P. rhodostoma - Rummy-nose tetra
Species
There are three recognized species in this genus:[3]
Petitella bleheri (Géry & Mahnert, 1986)
Petitella georgiae Géry & Boutière, 1964
Petitella rhodostoma (Ahl, 1924)
