Jean-Christophe Yoccoz
Jean-Christophe Yoccoz (born May 29, 1957) is a French mathematician. He was awarded a Fields Medal in 1994, for his work on dynamical systems.
Biography
Yoccoz was an IMO gold medal winner. He was the first to win a gold medal for France. He graduated from the École Normale Supérieure with the Agrégation de Mathématiques in 1977. After completing military service in Brazil, he completed his Ph.D. under Michael Herman in 1985 at the École Polytechnique. He took up a position at University of Paris-Sud at Orsay and was awarded the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Zurich in 1994.
