Neotype: BPBM 39695. [Neotype designated by Randall & Allen 2005:74].
Type locality: 7 miles west of Honiara, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, 1-2 m depth [original locality Ambon Island].

Neopomacentrus azysron is a damselfish from the Indo-West Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 7.5 cm in length.
