Holotype: FMNH 151807, adult ♀, body in alcohol and skull, collected by Steven M. Goodman and Christopher J. Raxworthy on 13 December 1993.
Type locality: “38 km S Ambalavao, RNI d'Andringitra, on ridge E of Volotsangana River, Fianarantsoa Province, 22°11'39"S 46°58'16"E, altitude 1625 m”.

The naked-nosed shrew tenrec (Microgale gymnorhyncha) is a species of mammal in the family Tenrecidae. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its natural habitats are subtropical and tropical moist lowland and montane forests.[2]
