Name

Cupressoideae Sweet, Hort. Brit. [Sweet] 372. (1826)

Type genus: Cupressus L., Sp. Pl. 2: 1002. (1753)
Note: Sweet did not provide a description/diagnosis. His reference to Richard, L.C.M., Comm. Bot. Conif. Cycad.: 137 (1826), as sect. Cupressinae, provides a description for the valid publication of Cupressoideae.
Note: The evidence presented by Mao et al. (2019) strongly support segregating Cupressus s.s., Hesperocyparis s.s., Xanthocyparis s.s. and also Callitropsis s.s from Cupressus s.l. However, one of our editors rejects this evidence and in order to prevent edit conflicts the list of genera suggests Mao et al. (2019), but redirects point to Cupressus s.l.
