Mesonauta festivus is a species of cichlid. It is a fish which lives in fresh water in Brazil, Peru and Bolivia. It is 12–15 cm long. In 1991 Mesonauta festivus was recategorised. The result was that the group Mesonauta was split into five: Mesonauta festivus from streams which run into the Amazon in Bolivia and Paraguay, Mesonauta acora from Tocantins and Xingu, Mesonauta egregius from Orinoco in Colombia, Mesonauta insignis from the upper Rio Negro and Orinoco, close to Casiquiare, and Mesonauta mirificus from the state of Amazonas in Peru.
